THE NOT SO GREAT ESCAPE

Gertie and Marty had been planning their escape for some time. The goal was to break out of the cage, fly south and enjoy the glory of the open sky. One day, someone left their cage slightly open and they flew out the window to freedom. The first moments were quite fantastic as they soared over the buildings of the city while singing their favorite song. By the end of the day, things had turned dark and cold. They were chased by crows, shot at by kids with BB guns and all they could find to eat was the remains of a Happy Meal, which only made them sad. The next morning, they managed to find their way back home and into their cage. An exhausted Gertie said to Marty, “Now I know why the caged bird sings. It’s a song of freaking relief.”
